Thinking about checking out the LA County Fair this year? The 2015 fair schedule is actually one week shorter than past years, running September 4 – 27. If you haven’t made it out yet, you better hurry because you only have about two weeks left to go! Here’s a peek into my trip opening weekend. My favorite things to do are ride the ferris wheel, check out the craft exhibits, go wine tasting, visit the bunnies, and eat chili cheese fries. I didn’t get a chance to grab ice cream during this trip, but I highly recommend visiting Dr. Bob’s. The ice cream is amazing! 😊
The Purple Pig: Adventurous Eats in Chicago, IL
Does eating roasted bone marrow, pig ears, pork belly, and squid sound exciting to you?! Yes? No?? 😋 I wasn’t exactly too thrilled to see all of those items on a menu for a restaurant my coworker suggested. But, he had his heart set on trying it out and it had over 3,000 reviews on Yelp, so I figured why not… I can always just order a salad! 😉
The location
Upon arriving to the Purple Pig, the ambience completely sets the tone, and I started to get a little excited for what was ahead. The entrance to the restaurant is off an alleyway on an overhead street. If you are not familiar with Chicago, let me first explain. The downtown Chicago area is made up of a series of multilevel streets. Very similar in a sense to San Antonio. Now the history behind it I’m not very familiar with, but I do remember that they explained on a tour that during the boom of the city, when construction was on the rise, everything was very concentrated in one area, so what people started to do was to literally sell air space rights above the land. For example, lets say you owned a parcel of land, constitutional rights stated that not only did you own the land, but you also legally owned the airspace above your land as well. So what occurred was that people would purchase the air rights to your land and build buildings at a level above, basically establishing whole streets built on top of another. This can be very confusing at times, especially when you are not familiar with a street and are looking for an address. Now circling back to the location of the Purple Pig, the entrance is located off of Magnificent Mile on an overhead pass of what would be considered an alleyway that looks down to the street below. It is easy to miss if you are not looking for the restaurant. And even if you do notice the sign, because the building itself sits in the back of the alleyway, you wouldn’t be able to tell what it was. However, when you do find it, you will be pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very small and makes great use of communal seating. Inside, there is a wrap around bar which faces the open kitchen, so you can only imagine how loud everything can get. The night we went, the ambience was bustling. But from what I’ve heard, it’s supposed to be like that every night!
THE FOOD
My coworker is a big time foodie, so I have to credit him for making the restaurant selection. I have to say, I am very glad that we tried it. The Purple Pig specializes in small shareable plates with an international influence.
“Located at 500 North Michigan Avenue, the restaurant offers cheese, swine and wine, among other standout dishes, showcasing the flavors of Italy, Greece and Spain.” – The Purple Pig
When ordering dishes, we opted to order one plate per person to share. Sharing in this style proved to be a little challenging as some dishes came in small portions than others and we were a rather large group. If you are considering doing the same, I would suggest that you order at least two plates of the smaller dishes to share; or try not to go hungry… but who wants to do that? 😜

OOTD: Peachy Pink Baby Doll Crop Top
This past weekend, a childhood friend had a fairy themed first birthday party for her daughter. She asked all the girls to come dressed as fairies and all the boys to dress like Peter Pan. Being that I do not own a pair of wings, I tried to improvise my outfit as best as possible. I picked a peachy pink baby doll crop top, which had a whimsical feel, and paired it with my favorite white jeans. For my hair, I did two braids just above my ears to hold my hair out of my face. I took a flower headband, folded it in half, and wove it into the braid using bobby pins to secure it in place. Unfortunately, I got so wrapped up in the moment, I didn’t get a chance to take too many photos at the party; but you know how that goes. 😋 Hope you are having a good week!

OOTD: Weekend Vibes
Happy Friday! 😘 Hope you are ready for the long holiday weekend. For me it feels like it’s been long overdue. Not sure what the weather has been like where you live, but here in LA it’s been hot hot hot. Here is my Friday #OOTD perfect for beating the heat and getting ready for those weekend vibes. Even though the top has long sleeves, the material is sheer and the white helps to beat the sun’s rays; almost making you feel cooler than without the sleeves. To step things up a notch, I added a statement necklace to add some color and a bit of bling to the outfit. I feel like mixing dressy and casual pieces gives off an effortless look, even though you probably spent hours picking everything out. Hope this outfit gives you some fun inspiration and gets you pumped for the weekend. So go blast “Lean On” by Major Lazer and start going through your closet! You have three outfits to plan. 😉

What ultimately made you decide to start blogging? I wanted a creative outlet; something different to do than my mundane day to day. Everyone always asks me for advice on places to go, restaurants to try, or even styles to check out. Whenever I’m going to do something, I always research every outlet to make sure I’m getting the best experience, so I figured why not provide other people with all of the fun stuff that I find.
What is your favorite type of blog post to read? I am obsessed with fashion posts. Since I don’t think of myself as very daring fashion wise, I like to live vicariously through others.
Favorite type of blog post to write yourself? Hmm… I would have to say that my favorite blog posts to write are about food. I LOVE to eat.
Your dream place to travel to? Paris is on my bucket list. Whenever I vacation, I usually opt for the beach, but there’s something about the French culture and romanticism behind it that’s so appealing. Watching fireworks with the Eiffel Tower as a landscape would be my dream.
Best tip for blogging? Not sure if I would be the best person to give any tips on blogging since I’m so new. 🙂 But I know I love to look at photos whenever I scope out other blogs. So my advice would be, include a few photos.
Favorite board game to play? Apples to Apples
Best memory as a child? Playing with my cousins. I come from a very large extended family so the few times that we would all get together to play are very special to me.
Favorite flavor of ice cream (or dessert if you aren’t an ice cream fan)? Mint Chocolate Chip! Yum! ❤️
Favorite season? Spring. Specifically that cusp when it’s almost summer. The days get longer and the nights slightly warmer.
What would you like to see me blog about more? I love your reviews, outfit advice, and travel ideas. I’m a heavy traveler myself, so I would love seeing more travel ideas. 🙂
The bloggers that I nominate are:
Pieces of Bliss
Stephy Sweet Bakes
