Motivation | To take a step without feet

This is love:
to fly toward a secret sky,
to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.
First, to let go of life.
In the end, to take a step without feet

What does that mean, “to take a step without feet”?  Feet provide you with stability when you walk.  They aide you with movement and provide you with support.  Without feet, you’d probably have a difficult time running, walking, or even standing up.  It doesn’t mean that it would be impossible to do, it would just be more of a challenge.

I think that the message Rumi is trying to convey is that, “taking a step without feet” is like taking a step not knowing whether you can control the outcome.  Not many people would be willing to do that.  Control is a difficult thing to let go.  What would be the incentive for you to do so?

It’s a scary thought if you think about it.  If you were to take a step without feet, you would probably fall.  But, on the the other hand, there is also a chance that you may not.  Allowing yourself to be okay with that thought is difficult.  To be okay with falling is not an instinctive trait.  Human nature drives off of survival.  It is that little voice in your head that cautions you from doing things that could potentially hurt you; physically and emotionally.

If you’ve been hurt repeatedly, your mind keeps building on that protection and your caution grows more and more.  Sometimes to the point where your mind may be cautioning you too much, and you become fearful of exploring things that may actually be good for you.

While your body is only trying to help, there comes a point where you have to consciously decide, “What are the things you can control, and what are the things you should throw caution to the wind?”  Making that distinction is the first step.  You can’t control everything in life, but you can control your approach.  It is about acknowledging and knowing that, yes, you can take a step without feet – it will be difficult, but it is not impossible.  In the end, sometimes the biggest payoffs are the ones you approach without having firm grounding.  The ones where you let go of life, and you take a step without feet.

Motivation | Take a Little Step

A little step may be the beginning of a great journey.

Newport Bay Nature Preserve

Newport Bay Nature Preserve, Newport Beach, Ca

Do you remember when you were little and you felt like you could conquer the world?  Like anything you put your mind to you could accomplish.  If you wanted to grow up to be a superhero – you could be a superhero!  Nothing stood in your way.

I think that as time goes on, you start to become more aware of other peoples’ opinions of you and you become conscious of limitations, which hinders your potential to take bigger leaps of faith.  It’s nothing physical per say, but an emotional shift that affects you mentally.  In a way, maybe it’s negative thinking or maybe a break in your confidence or self-esteem.   But that’s all it is, a mental limitation which makes you feel a certain type of way.

Don’t let negative thoughts take up space in your mind.  You can still be a superhero! Maybe not literally fly, but you can do it in other ways.  Why stop yourself now?  Why not take that vacation, or make that move, or take that class you’ve been considering.  No one says you have to jump in all at once.  Start by getting your toes wet, then see where you go from there. “A little step may be the beginning of a great journey.”

Exploring Springfield (The Simpsons) | Universal Studios Orlando, Florida

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to explore Springfield (you know, the hometown of the Simpsons)?  While the exact location of the city is still questionable, you can find a replica located at Universal Studios in Orlando.  Having grown up on the show, I got a real kick exploring the Simpsons themed area at the park.  While I was disappointed I didn’t run into Bart or Lisa, Moe’s completely made up for it. All of the details are down to the “T”.  Walking into the bar, the resident drunk, Barney is there to greet you.  You can take a seat at the bar and order a flaming Moe.  If you’re hungry, just around the corner you can pick up a Krusty Burger or chicken from Cletus’s Chicken Shack. Just make sure not to cause too much trouble or you might find yourself detained by Officer Wiggums who is hanging just outside.

Here is a peek of the little tour that I did.  Hope you enjoy. 😊
