OOTD | Nashville Hot

With all this talk about the upcoming eclipse, I imagine that half the country is making their way down to Nashville for a first class seat!  That’s where I hear you’re supposed to be able to have the best view, since Nashville is one the major cities within the path of the eclipse.  Not to worry if you miss it though.  At least you won’t have to wait another 30 years again, since the next one is expected in only 7.  đŸ˜‰

Well, if you are one of the lucky few that’ll get to experience the eclipse in Nashville, here is an outfit inspiration from my last trip down there.  I was actually lucky enough to spend the 4th of July in the heart of Music City, and it was a complete blast.  The chicken was hot and the days were even hotter!

But no matter where you end up, remember to protect your eyes!  Even if you think your sunglasses are cute, I’ve read that you need special protective shades if you want to watch the eclipse.

Nashville Hot Outfit

This top was perfect for the summer heat.  The cut is loose with swing sleeves and doesn’t cling to your body.  Check out my DIY post to see how I updated the front ties.

The shades I wore here are cute, but not solar eclipse appropriate. The brand is Circus by Sam Edelman. I actually found them at Ross for a steal!  The purse is Betsyville by Betsy Johnson.

I got to go to the Nashville hot chicken festival.  Prince’s hot chicken was hands down the best! đŸ—đŸ”„

Hope you have a fun and safe solar eclipse weekend!  Remember to hydrate and wear sunscreen because I’m sure it’ll be a scorcher. đŸ”„

Galentine’s Day | Exploring Pasadena, CA

“Galentine’s Day?”, you may be asking.  What exactly is Galentine’s Day?  Well that’s the same question I had when I noticed that hash tag trending in IG – so I looked it up!

Season 2 of Parks and Recs can be credited for starting the trend.  Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s.  According to Wikia, Galentine’s Day is the best day of the year.  It is a day to celebrate your female friendships and it’s basically an excuse to pamper yourselves and have a girls day out.

Armed with excessive FOMO (fear of missing out), my cousin and I set up our Galentine’s date and set out to explore Pasadena.

We started out the day with intentions to do brunch at Urth Caffe.  If you checked out my ‘Breakfast in Southern California’ post, you probably have a good idea of just how amazing breakfast at Urth Caffe is.

Well, things didn’t turn out quite as planned and we missed the breakfast menu.  But that didn’t stop us from enjoying our “brunch”.  We ordered a green tea boba, morrocan tea boba (which tastes like a minty green tea), a chicken pesto salad, and sprout sandwich.

Our lunch options did not disappoint.  The lunch at Urth Caffe is just as good as the breakfast.

Urth Caffe

Did I mention it was my cousin’s birthday?  The main reason for celebration of course!  (Although a Galentine’s Day celebration is also a good excuse.)

Following our lunch, we ventured out to old town Pasadena, one of my favorite places for people watching and window shopping.  We were pleasantly surprised to find an interactive art installation in One Colorado.  It was entitled “Heart Strings”.  Guests were encouraged to take a heart and write a message of love or declaration for an admirer and pin it to strings that were hung from wooden posts.

I was so excited when @EnjoyPasadena re-posted my photo on their Instagram account!

Following our stroll we decided to stop by POP Champagne & Dessert Bar for some bubbly.  It’s not a true brunch unless champagne is involved.  😉

We wrapped up our day with milky buns from AFTERS ice cream.  What is a milky bun you may ask?  Only the most amazing deliciousness wrapped in a donut!

Milky Bun Cookie Butter

At AFTERS, we shared a glazed milky bun with cookie butter ice cream and mochi.  Nom nom nom.  Let me tell you, it was delicious.

Oh, I almost forgot. We also managed to squeeze in a photo shoot before the sun went down. That OOTD post still to come. 😉

Dine LA | 2016 Winter Restaurant Week Roundup

Hi Lovlies! Hope you had a good weekend.  I’ve spent most of the last couple of days working and eating my way around Los Angeles. 😅 If you follow me on Instagram (@curlsoxoxo_ca), you’ve probably been flooded with food pics.

DineLA restaurant week, is a bi-annual event which takes place in Los Angeles county every winter and summer.  The event is 14-days with over 300 participating restaurants offering pre-fixed lunch ($15-$25) and dinner ($29-$49) menus.  Restaurant week is a great opportunity to try some high-end restaurants at a good price.  Most of the pre-fixe menus include a 3-course meal and can be a great value.

Here is my 2016 winter restaurant week roundup.  I tried dinner at Nick and Stef’s, Mi Piace, Central Park Restaurant, and Knuckle and Claw.  My favorite restaurant by far was Mi Piace!  Knuckle and Claw, while delicious, was not a deal for the price.  The poor service didn’t help the situation, but the lobster rolls were outstanding.

Plan Check Kitchen + Bar | Burgers and Churros in Los Angeles

When my friend first asked if I wanted to try out Plan Check Kitchen and Bar, I thought maybe he typed too fast and autocorrect had changed the name of the restaurant… but no, Plan Check it was indeed!

Plan Check is a quirky neighborhood restaurant,

“serving modern American comfort food in a small plate format along with unique cocktails, premium whiskeys and craft beers.”

Their claim to fame is their ketchup leather, a dehydrated square of ketchup with a fruit roll-up texture.  (Tomatoes are considered a fruit right?)  I had to do a doable take when seeing this on the menu, but knew I had to try it right away.

PCB (Plan Check Burger)

PCB (Plan Check Burger) – americanized dashi cheese, ketchup leather, schmaltz onions, mixed pickles, crunch bun.

While I opted for the Plan Check Burger, my friend was more adventurous and tried the Chefs Favorite Burger; served with a fried egg and topped off with hot sauce!

Chefs Favorite Burger

Chefs Favorite Burger – cheese two ways, bacon two ways, ketchup leather, sunny fried egg, hot sauce.

To compliment the entrees we decided to split a goat cheese plate, sweet potatoe fries, and churro dessert.

We both agreed that the ketchup leather was delicious.  However, the most tastiest treat on the menu has to be the churro donut!  Dusted with cinnamon and brown sugar, the crunchy outside hides the vanilla flavored lightly moist texture on the inside.  I’m not quite sure why they call it a “cruller donut” because true cruller fashion would consist of a dense filling, whereas this donut is light on the inside.  Served on top of cream with fruit, asking for it a la mode is really the only way to go.

If you are visiting Los Angeles and looking for your burger and churro fix, make sure to check them out.  They have three locations within the area, with one conveniently located in downtown.  Visit their website or check out their reviews on Yelp.

Happy eating!
